Bruce Park fireworks display 2016

This year there is heavy cloud and a pending thunderstorm which has actually been pretty usual. Around here we celebrate later in the season when it is dry and warm. Mardi Gras celebrations are in late July.

Cows Got Out

Here they are in again

Someone (who wasn't Caroline) left the back gate open and the cows trooped across the yard putting holes in the lawn and beheading a small maple and a hydrangia before being pressed back into the pasture. They had also stepped over a fallen fence. All the rain makes for soft ground and tilty fenceposts. Fortunately our helper found them on inspection and got everyone back where they belonged.

Oriole School

Adult Oriole (center) feeds grape jelly to her child.

A female oriole was showing juveniles about grape jelly. The young stayed on the perch and waited for the mom to come back and drop jelly into their open mouths. Later on the kids were gingerly pecking  at the jelly from the dish under mom's supervision but reverted to open mouthed demand which the adult (with heavy sigh) gave in and deposited.
